Sudan: International Concern

Sudan: International Concern

The European Union has strongly condemned the atrocities committed by Rapid Support Forces. The statement released by European Union states that, “The European Union is appalled by and condemns the recent dramatic escalation of violence in Darfur. According to credible eyewitness reports more than a thousand members of the Masalit community were killed in Ardamta, West Darfur, in just over two days, during major attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its affiliated militias.”

The statement indicates that these atrocities target non-Arab Masalit community in West Darfur which is in line with part of the ongoing ethnic cleansing by RSF militants. The statement reminded the militant group to stop violence against civilians which seem to fall on deaf ears.

It was also stated that, “The EU is working together with the International Criminal Court and other international partners to monitor and document human rights violations in order to ensure accountability of the perpetrators and contribute to ending the culture of impunity in Sudan.”

It is to be recalled that the US Embassy in Khartoum has released similar statement expressing its concern on the ongoing genocide in its Tweeter page.

The Embassy has stated that “We are deeply disturbed by eyewitness reports of serious human rights abuses by the RSF and affiliated militias, including killings in Ardamata, West Darfur, ethnic targeting of the Masalit community leaders and members, and the arbitrary detention of civilians, including human rights defenders and activists. These horrifying actions once again highlight the RSF’s pattern of abuses in connection with their military offensives.”

The embassy has also condemned RSF’s appointment of Abdul Rahman Juma as commander of the 15th Infantry Division in El- Geneina, who is involved in the recent violation of human rights.

The European Union and The US Embassy have both expressed their commitment to bring about freedom, peace, and justice to the Sudanese people.
